After disastrous debuts in Hindi & Telugu (viz., Luck & Anaganaga O Dheerudu ) Shruthi Hassan makes her debut in Tamil with this movie. He is not his regular confident self as Arvind in this movie. That he is uncomfortable with his characterization clearly shows on screen. Surya excels in his role of Bhodidarman with his excellent body language especially the manner in which he communicates with his eyes, hats off.!! But as Arvind, Surya seems to be like a fish out of water. Though the sluggish screenplay & poor execution mars the poignancy of the happenings sparkling dialogs, Surya & Shruthi's classy acting & Jhonny Tri Nguyen's awesome screen presence are the brawny parts of the movie. Though he twists & turns and the chases lack adrenaline it is a okayish part of the movie where one can actually sit through the proceedings. Second half picks up some pace & tries to spruce up the mood of the viewers. The contrast between the first 20 minutes & the rest of the first half is so stark that one right away feels uncomfortable sitting through the first half. But once the fable is done with & the movie travels to the present, the script nose-dives into the abyss. Movie starts of in a powerful manner throwing light into the so-called history (or the legend.!) though one gets a docu feel especially the voice-over which is a typical "new-reel" like. But sadly due to the listless direction by Murugadoss movie fails to create any emotional impact on the viewers. With such a powerful story the impact on the viewers ought to have been humongous. Direction of the movie is poor which is astonishing considering the past works of A.R.Murugadoss. Movie is entertaining in parts but what makes it not work is the sluggish screenplay especially the first half which is a drag. " 7 am Arivu" is a decent movie with a novel plot, fine acting by the lead actors, hummable songs & fine cinematography. The movie was boring from the start till end and it deserves a great boo from all. The music sucked badly with just some beats here and there. Then what is this about Tamil?I am Indian and We WILL USE only native language if she(Shruthi Hassan) told like that it would have showed us PATRIOTISM and INTEGRITY. The game already established its four parts and this movie took theme from it. The action sequences as expected was too much, hey what did he mean by looking in the eye and making people kill themselves when there are sequences where he makes a guy turn and look into his eyes when he was looking the other side, then flying cars, stupid cops and finally Circus guy who outruns him? What the hell? The story line was copied from a game called assassins creed wherein the protagonist has a bloodline of assassin ancestors and his DNA has memories of the past. Bodhi Dharma was an Indian and he traveled to China with the art form known as KALARI but in the movie none of the Kalari movements are adapted but instead they show Kung Fu master Bodhi Dharma. The introduction of Bodhi Dharma was really good and Surya deserves applause for what he did and Shruthi Hassan for talking fully in the native language, But every other aspect receives a huge boo from my side. The movie was highly waited from my side as I thought it would bring a new genre to Indian movies but I was disappointed as it showed the stereotyped story line, comedies and music. It claims to show the greatest Indian who lived in the Past, Bodhi Dharma but ended showing gimmicks and utter foolishness.
